Upon the mountain
In a somber, cold wilderness
Looms a mountain.
It towers over a wreathing darkness
And soars to the welkin.
My fate’s to conquer the pinnacle,
An urge from the gut,
It drives me further, makes me clamber,
Up to the cap.
Each peak’s a life, death is the prize,
The sole trail that leads through dells and rifts,
The weight I tote is more and more.
Sharpened edge crags and breakneck heights,
Savage terrains,
Soundless depths and arduous ascents,
Barren moonscapes.
There’s no shelter from nature’s wrath,
I’m a mote in the vast world,
One small mistake may lead to death,
Screams won’t be heard.
So many times, pulled by the heights,
I let depths devour my tired soul.
I fell like stone into the void.
When one day I climb the highest peak
I'll receive my guerdon,
Take one last look at this world and…
I'll see the throne of light - upon the mountain
I'll feel the sacred vibe - upon the mountain
I'll fulfill my destiny - upon the mountain
I'll perceive eternity - upon the mountain.
After each fall I reascend -
Like from my dreams,
And from the place of my last death
I resume the creep.
Rarely I hear distant voices
Of dim figures
Crawling, moaning in the dense mist
Of darkened cols.
In searing heat, in bone-chilling wind,
In snow and ice, on dark, frozen nights
I climb aloft, I never stop.
When one day I climb the highest peak
I’ll throw down my burdens,
Start to secede from this world and…
I'll see the throne of light - upon the mountain
I'll feel the sacred vibe - upon the mountain
I'll fulfill my destiny - upon the mountain
I'll perceive eternity - upon the mountain.
